The ESRB has officially rated Stellar Blade for the Nintendo Switch 2, confirming that SHIFT UP's action-RPG is indeed heading to Nintendo's next console. The listing popped up on the Entertainment Software Ratings Board's website, and while it doesn't give us a release date, it does confirm one thing: the game's more "adult" elements are making the trip intact.
This isn't a surprise — we already knew Stellar Blade was coming to Switch 2 thanks to a Nintendo Direct reveal back in June with a vague "2026" window. But an ESRB rating is usually a sign that the final build is close to done, and that we'll hear about a concrete date soon enough.
The Mature Content is Staying Put
For anyone worried about Nintendo's more family-friendly reputation leading to cuts, the ESRB summary is refreshingly specific. It notes that Stellar Blade on Switch 2 "depicts some female characters in revealing costumes (e.g., deep cleavage; skintight, flesh-toned body suits), with breasts that jiggle during combat." So yes, the physics are intact. The game's M rating is fully preserved, which means EVE's outfit options and the game's general tone remain exactly as they were on PS5 and PC.
That's a big deal because Nintendo has historically been careful about mature third-party content on their platforms. But given the Switch 2's push for a more "grown-up" library — we've already seen Cyberpunk 2077 and Elden Ring announced for the system — this isn't shocking. It's just nice to have confirmation.
What This Means for the Switch 2 Port
Stellar Blade was a hit on PlayStation 5 in 2024, and its PC port earlier this year did equally well. SHIFT UP has gone two-for-two so far, and the Switch 2 version is their third attempt to bring the game to a new audience. The question, as always with Nintendo hardware, is performance. The Switch 2's specs are rumored to be closer to a PS4 Pro than a PS5, so expect some visual compromises — likely lower resolution, fewer effects, and maybe a locked 30fps instead of 60. But if the game's core combat and art style hold up, that's enough for most players.
What's interesting is that this rating comes alongside a growing list of third-party ports for the Switch 2. Nintendo seems to be courting developers more aggressively this time, and Stellar Blade is a perfect test case for whether a stylish, mature action game can find an audience on the platform. The PS5 version sold over 1 million copies in its first few months, and the PC port added another half-million. If the Switch 2 version performs anywhere near that, it's a win for SHIFT UP.
